BCBA Licensing

The licensure law was passed under HEA 1516, effective July 1, 2021, establishing the licensing board, penalties, background check requirements, CE mandates, and fee schedules. Ongoing implementation of administrative rules and telehealth guidance by PLA, with live rules hearings in place since Dec 2024.

The Indiana Professional Licensing Agency is now issuing licenses to Indiana BCBAs who successfully complete the application process.

Applicants must:

  1. Hold BCBA certification from the BACB (or equivalent Committee-approved credential).

  2. Pass a national criminal background check under IC 25‑1‑1.1‑4.

  3. Provide proof of no disciplinary actions from out-of-state licensing bodies.

  4. Apply via PLA in the prescribed format and pay the fee.

  5. Pay committee-set fees to support the Committee’s operations



The Professional Licensing Agency staff participated in a Question and Answer session on May 30, 2025 with interested BCBAs to answer questions about the licensure process. Please note since this date there has been updated information to some of the opened questions from the PLA staff.
